Frequently asked questions

General

What is Breedio?▼
Breedio is an online app for animal breeders. It keeps animal records, pedigrees, health records, reproduction, litters, genetics and breeding finances in one place, and lets you publish a public kennel or cattery profile. It replaces notebooks, spreadsheets and a handful of separate apps.
Which animal species does Breedio support?▼
Breedio is for breeders of cats, dogs, horses, rabbits and parrots. Records, health, reproduction, litters and finances work for every species. Cat breeders currently get the most specialised tools: EMS colour codes, FIFe and WCF titles, FIFe breeding rules and pedigree import from a photo.
How much does Breedio cost? Is it free?▼
You can use Breedio for free on the free plan with a limited number of animals, no credit card required. The paid Breeder+ and Breeder Pro plans add more animals, AI pedigree import and advanced modules, billed monthly or yearly. Current prices and limits for each plan are on the pricing page.
Which devices does Breedio work on?▼
Breedio runs in any web browser on a computer, tablet or phone, and has apps for Android (Google Play) and iOS (App Store). Your data syncs, so you see the same breeding program on every device.
Which languages is Breedio available in?▼
Breedio is available in 11 languages: Czech, Slovak, English, German, Polish, Russian, French, Dutch, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. Emails and notifications are sent in the language you choose.
Can I use Breedio if I am not a breeder and just have a pet?▼
Yes. When you sign up, choose that you are not a breeder and Breedio hides breeding features such as litters, matings and the public kennel profile. You keep animal records, health records, vaccination reminders, weight, photos and the calendar. You can switch to a breeder account at any time.

Getting started

How do I get started with Breedio?▼
Create a free account, name your breeding program and add your first animals – manually, or for cats by uploading a photo of the pedigree certificate. Then link parents with offspring and start logging health records. Before signing up, you can explore a demo kennel from the home page.
How do I move my records from a notebook or spreadsheet into Breedio?▼
Add animals using the form; for cats, pedigrees are much faster via import from a photo of the pedigree certificate or from a PawPeds or BreedArchive link. Ancestors entered in a parent's pedigree automatically appear in the pedigrees of its offspring, so you enter each ancestor only once.
Can more people manage one breeding program, for example a co-owner?▼
Yes. Invite other members to your breeding program by email and assign them a role. Everyone then works with the same animals, litters and records. The number of members you can invite depends on your plan.

Pedigrees

How does importing a pedigree from a photo work?▼
Take or upload a photo of the pedigree certificate and AI reads the ancestors, registration numbers, colours and titles. Before saving, you review the result on a summary screen where uncertain values are highlighted, and correct anything needed. The import currently works for cats and is included in paid plans with a monthly number of imports depending on the plan.
Does Breedio build pedigrees automatically?▼
Yes. When you link an animal's sire and dam to animals in Breedio, the pedigree builds itself and grows with every ancestor you add. Missing ancestors can be typed directly into the tree. Pedigrees can be exported to PDF.
Can I import a pedigree from PawPeds or BreedArchive?▼
Yes. Paste a link to the animal in the PawPeds or BreedArchive database and Breedio loads its ancestors into your animal's pedigree.
How many pedigree generations does Breedio show?▼
The number of generations shown depends on your plan. No data is lost: ancestors beyond the limit stay stored and become visible when you upgrade. Exact limits are on the pricing page.

Genetics and COI

What is the coefficient of inbreeding (COI) and how does Breedio calculate it?▼
The coefficient of inbreeding (COI) is the probability that an offspring inherits the same allele from a common ancestor through both parents – a measure of inbreeding. Breedio calculates it with Wright's method from both parents' pedigrees, including for planned pairings before mating. It matches ancestors by registration numbers and names, so it recognises the same animal in pedigrees written differently. The result is only as accurate as the pedigrees are complete.
What COI value is acceptable?▼
There is no universal threshold – the result always depends on how many generations are included, and deeper pedigrees give higher values. As a guide: mating half-siblings or grandparent with grandchild gives 12.5%, first cousins 6.25%. Follow your breed club's rules and always compare values calculated over the same pedigree depth.
Can Breedio predict kitten colours?▼
Yes. The phenotype calculator in the Genetics module uses both parents' EMS codes to show which colours and patterns the kittens can have. Because hidden genes cannot be read from appearance, it shows the range of possibilities rather than exact percentages.
Can I record genetic tests and show them to buyers?▼
Yes. Record genetic test results for each animal, for example HCM or PKD. For every test you decide separately whether it appears on your public profile.

Health, reproduction and litters

Will Breedio remind me about vaccinations, deworming or medication?▼
Yes. Set the next due date or a repeat interval (daily, weekly, monthly…) on a vet record and Breedio notifies you by push notification and email. For treatments you can set an end date so reminders stop on their own. Dates can be exported to Google, Apple or Outlook calendar.
How does Breedio help with reproduction and births?▼
Log heats, matings, pregnancies and births. Breedio calculates the expected due date from the mating date and, once you record the birth, automatically creates a litter with the dam, sire and dates. Choose the sire from your own animals or enter an outside stud.
What can I record for a litter and its offspring?▼
For each litter you record the parents, mating and birth dates, individual offspring, their weight, vaccinations and deworming following a protocol, and sales. Sold offspring stay in the litter history. For cats you can also generate the Czech ČSCH mating certificate.
Does Breedio check rules on litter frequency and breeding age?▼
Yes, for cats according to FIFe breeding rules. Breedio warns you when a planned mating or litter would exceed the allowed number of litters in a period, and also checks minimum breeding age, end of breeding use and the age at which kittens can leave. These are warnings only and never block saving; an exception, for example with vet approval, can be noted on the litter.
Can Breedio show whether a litter was profitable?▼
Yes. Record income and expenses in the finance module and assign them to a specific animal. Recurring costs such as food or insurance are entered once and Breedio logs them automatically. Overviews show what your breeding program cost and earned.

Shows and titles

Does Breedio track show titles?▼
Yes, for cats under FIFe and WCF rules. Record show results and Breedio tracks how many certificates are still needed for the next title. If an animal already holds a title, enter it as the starting point and counting continues from there.
Can Breedio fill in show entry forms or title applications?▼
Yes. Generate a PDF show entry form and a Czech ČSCH title application pre-filled from the animal's data and show results. You just check the form and send it to the show organiser or club.

Public profile and sales

What is the public breeder profile?▼
It is a showcase of your kennel or cattery at breedio.cz/p/your-name with a description, contacts, animals and litters. You do not need your own website, and your breeding program also appears in the Breedio breeder catalog.
Can the public see everything I have in Breedio?▼
No, only what you publish is public. The main switch is on your breeding profile – when it is off, nothing is public. For each animal and litter you then decide whether it appears on the profile. Health records and finances are never public; genetic tests only if you allow it for that test.
How do I transfer an animal to a new owner?▼
When you sell an animal, create a transfer in Breedio. The new owner receives a link, confirms the transfer and the animal moves to their account together with its pedigree, health records and documents. A PDF handover protocol is generated for the transfer. The sales and transfers module is included in selected plans.

Data and privacy

Who can see my data?▼
Only you and the members you invite can see your breeding data. The only public information is what you publish on your breeding profile. Personal data is processed in line with the GDPR; details are in the privacy policy.
Can I export my data?▼
Yes. Pedigrees, animal profiles and the breeding log export to PDF, and calendar events to an .ics file. CSV data export is available depending on your plan.
How do I delete my account?▼
Delete your account in the app under My kennel. Access is blocked immediately and personal data is permanently removed within 30 days. Animals stay in an anonymised archive so they do not disappear from other breeders' pedigrees. The process is also described on the Account deletion page.

Plans and billing

Can I change my plan at any time?▼
Yes, you can upgrade or downgrade at any time. When upgrading you only pay the prorated difference until the end of the current billing period. Subscriptions purchased through the App Store are changed in your Apple ID settings.
What happens to my data if I downgrade?▼
Your data stays intact. Above the lower plan's limits you cannot add more animals or public listings, but existing records remain and are fully available again when you upgrade.
Can I switch between monthly and yearly billing?▼
Yes, switch between monthly and yearly billing in subscription management. Yearly billing costs less than twelve monthly payments.
Which payment methods do you accept?▼
On the web you pay by card through the secure Stripe payment gateway. In the iOS app, subscriptions are paid through the App Store.
Can I cancel my subscription?▼
Yes, at any time. Your subscription runs until the end of the paid period, then your breeding program moves to the free plan and your data is kept. App Store subscriptions are cancelled in your Apple ID settings.
Can I try a paid plan first?▼
Selected plans come with a free trial. Its current length and terms are shown on the pricing page for each plan. If you cancel during the trial, you are not charged.
Is the subscription for the whole breeding program or per member?▼
The subscription belongs to the breeding program. All members you invite use its plan and do not need their own subscription.
I have a promo code. Where do I redeem it?▼
Enter the promo code in the app under My kennel. It activates a paid plan for the period it was issued for and can be redeemed by the owner of a breeding program on the free plan. We notify you before it expires.
